Contributions to Wine
Since late 1999, CodeWeavers has put substantial energy and effort into improving the Wine Project. Wine is the heart and soul of our company. A bedrock of our mission is to continually improve the capabilities of the Wine project, so that the world can have an alternative source of the Windows APIs and thereby gain more freedom of choice.
To that end, we not only contribute all of our work on Wine back to the Wine project under a Free Software License, we also support many key Wine developers and many of the critical R&D initiatives that Wine needs in order to grow into the technology that it needs to be.
Some of our notable accomplishments include:
- Made Wine work with Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Lotus Notes, Quicken, iTunes and many more applications.
- Made Wine work across a variety of platforms, notably the Intel Mac OS X.
- Provide web hosting and technical support for the Wine Project website, www.winehq.org.
- Organized the annual Wine technical conference.
- Made Wine work with QuickTime, Windows Media Player, Shockwave, and many more browser plugins.
- Major work on Direct3D support.
- Support for safedisc and other copy protection software.
- Established a substantial resource for Windows compatibility testing.
- Fully-featured COM and improved OLE support.
- Wine Bugs Database.
- Wine Application Database.
- WineHQ Redesign.
- Wine Documentation.
- Winemaker, or making Winelib actually useful.
- Implemented a Microsoft Installer service.
- Completely revamped the Wine/X11 Window Manager integration.
- Easy to use Configuration.
- Address Space Separation.
- Unicode/code pages support.
- Dramatic window management revision.
- Shared Window handles.
- Most of the DLL separation work.
- Debugging API.
- Tablet support.
- MSI Support.
- Implementation of DCE/RPC.
- Lots of work on the common controls.
- About a gazillion bug fixes.
- Making many more installers work.
All of these improvements were made and released back into the main Wine tree, thereby dramatically improving the quality of the Wine Project overall.
We at CodeWeavers recognize that we have only been able to sustain this work because of the support we have received from our customers, and so, indirectly, it is our customers that have brought all of these wonderful contributions to Wine. Thanks, folks.
