When you select the form from a matter record, AbacusLaw will populate those fields with a single mouse click. Practice Management has to interact with Word Processor, and a Billing Package (either the integrated one, which each of them have or Timeslips, which is still about half the total market. My guess is that if you could get Practice Management and Billing to work together, the developer would figure a way to work with Open Office.
Lawfirms can't switch to Linux until these categories of software work, and work together

When the user opens any of them, the Masterform Program opens When he selects the specific legal form in the Masterform Program, that form appears on his screen. Each Masterform legal form contains within it virtually all the clauses and parts of clauses the user will ever need to create a legal document specifically tailored to his or his client’s situation. It gives the user complete control over the document because the user works right on the document, not on an input sheet. And everything is editable.
For example, when you the user opens the Employment Agreement Masterform, the actual employment agreement appears on his computer screen. Each paragraph contains little blue words that he can click on to select or remove alternate clauses or parts of clauses, fill-in data, dates, times, numbering schemes, etc. The user can even add his own favorite clauses. As the user makes his choices, the program automatically re-numbers the paragraphs (including the paragraphs he has added). |
