If you get "client closed unexpectedly" try a winxp bottle
Although CCP claimed that they would drop support for Windows XP long ago, their client is still working in a winxp bottle. Steam is also dropping support for winxp any day, so it is likely that soon this tip will only work for the stand-alone EVE launcher, not running EVE through Steam.
NOTE: Before trying a winxp bottle, make sure you have forced the game to use Direct X 9 in the launcher settings.
To use an XP bottle, you need to do a new install, and during installation select Windows XP as the bottle type.
