What do the medals mean?
We use medals to give you an idea of how we rate the compatibility of a particular application.
The medal displayed on the application, and in the search results lists, is always for the most recent version of CrossOver. If you want to check how well the application worked in an older version, click the Medal Breakdown link on the Application Details page.
We use three different categories of medals.
- Supported:
These are applications that CodeWeavers has marked as working, for which it provides support. - Unsupported:
These applications, while they still may work, are either unverified by CodeWeavers, and/or we don't provide support for the application. Important Note: Unsupported does not mean that the application won't run under CrossOver. Many unsupported applications actually work very, very well. However, we cannot provide technical support for all applications for the very simple reason that we have neither the time, money, or the resources to test / validate / support every Windows application on the planet. - Other:
These applications either fall into the areas of unknown, or known not to work.
Supported Medals
-
Gold Medal (Officially Supported)
The Gold rank is awarded to applications that install and run as you would expect them to in Microsoft Windows. We expect that our customers can use these applications on an everyday basis with good results, and only minor bugs.
The further aspect of a supported gold application is that CodeWeavers will respond to and address all bugs reported in a Gold application, either immediately, or in a future release. -
Silver Medal (Officially Supported)
The Silver is awarded to applications that install and run well enough to be usable. However, in our testing, we find that these applications have bugs that prevent them from running flawlessly.
The most important aspect of a supported Silver application is that CodeWeavers makes a firm commitment to bring all Silver applications to the Gold level in future releases of CrossOver. Likewise, CodeWeavers will respond to and address all bugs reported in these applications. -
Bronze Medal (Officially Supported)
The Bronze is awarded to applications that install and run, and that can accomplish some portion of their fundamental mission. However, Bronze applications generally have enough bugs that we recommend that our customers use them with caution. Save early/save often, and don't be surprised if there are some bumps along the way.
The most important aspect of a supported Bronze application is that CodeWeavers makes a firm commitment to bring all Bronze applications to the Silver level in future releases of CrossOver. Likewise, CodeWeavers will respond to and address all bugs reported in these applications.
Unsupported Medals

Gold Medal
The Gold is awarded to applications that install and run as you would expect them to in Microsoft Windows. This means that the consensus of our users is that you can expect to use these applications on an everyday basis with good results, and only minor bugs. -
Silver Medal
The Silver rank is awarded to applications that install and run well enough to be usable. This means that the consensus of our users is that you can expect to use these applications on an everyday basis with good results. However, they also contain bugs that prevent them from running flawlessly. -
Bronze Medal
The Bronze is awarded to applications that install and run, and that can accomplish some portion of their fundamental mission. This means that the consensus of our users is that Bronze applications generally have enough bugs that we recommend that our customers use them with caution. Save early/save often, and don't be surprised if there are some bumps along the way.
Other Medals
-
Known not to work
These sort of applications either do not install and/or run, for any of a number of reasons. We suggest you don't even try to use them on the current version of CrossOver. However, it never hurts to check back to see if it will run under future versions of CrossOver: Wine continues improving all the time, and even badly broken applications will sometimes "magically" start working as Wine continues to evolve. -
Untested
Untested applications are precisely that: untested. That doesn't mean they won't work under CrossOver. They may actually work great. But we do not know, and our Advocates do not know, if they work (or not). Not surprisingly, we also do not support them. If you'd like to try testing such an application under our demo software, by all means do so, and let us know how it runs.
Boring Math Stuff
For those of you interested in the gory math details on how we rank, here it is.
- Supported
For supported applications, our internal CodeWeavers rank takes priority over all submitted ranks.
Rank weighting is calculated as follows:
- 65% - CodeWeavers Rank
- 25% - Advocate Ranks
- 10% - User Ranks
- Unsupported
For unsupported applications, the rank is based on an average of all user-submitted ranks.
Rank weighting is calculated as follows:
- 75% - Advocate Ranks
- 25% - User Ranks
Note: Our ranks are tallied nightly. If you submit a rank for an application, it will not appear until our next run of the ranking processor. We do this to reduce load on the website, as calculating ranks is fairly processor intensive.
