CrossOver Linux Requirements

  • Linux distribution (32 bit, or 64 bit with 32 bit compatibility library installed)
    Tested on
    • Ubuntu 8.10/9.04 (1)
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation 4 and 5 (2)
    • openSUSE 10.2, 11.x
    • Fedora Core 10 and 11
    • Debian Stable
    • Mint 7
    • CentOS 5.3(1)

If a distribution is listed here, that means two things: we test regularly on that distribution and that we are ready and able to support customers that use that distribution. We test on both 32 bit and 64 bit systems running each distribution, and, where possible, we test both KDE and Gnome.

You should be able to run this on a variety of other distributions, particularly older versions of the distributions listed here. However, our ability to test and support older or other configurations is somewhat limited.

NOTE: Users of Gentoo, self-compiled, and "lightweight" distros such as Arch, Puppy, Mepis, and Linpus in particular should note that we do not install or test on any of these systems, nor do we have any plans to do so, so you should use CrossOver at your own risk. We have many customers happily using such distros, but we also have a number of users with problems in running CrossOver on these distros.

(1) CrossOver 8.0 requires the libgnutls26 package for encryption purposes. Ubuntu 8.04 and CentOS 5.3 (and earlier versions of both distros) use the libgnutls13 package, and thus some Windows apps which call upon this package will not correctly function in CrossOver 8.0 with Ubuntu 8.04 or CentOS 5.3.

(2) Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 uses a form of SELinux that does not allow CrossOver to function properly by default. Their default tool will allow you to customize permissions to allow it to work, however.
