The CrossOver client configuration tool is called the "ClientSetup". You can
run it from the menu, or by typing
/opt/cxclient/bin/cxsetup at the command line. The
ClientSetup allows you to configure MIME type associations, menu entries,
and (when running as root) the server connection.
Changes to menus and associations may be customized by individual users using ClientSetup. If the ClientSetup is run as root, changes will take effect for all users on the client machine.
The Associations panel allows you to associate certain applications with certain document types. This will ensure that documents appear with the proper icon in your file manager, and allow you to open documents directly from the desktop without specifying an application.
To be able to view Word documents directly from your mail client, enable the Netscape/Mailcap checkbox. Similarly, to be able to view a Word file by clicking on it in the Gnome or KDE file managers, enable the Gnome and KDE options respectively.
You can proceed the same way with the other document types such as Excel and
PowerPoint documents. If your mail client or application does not respect
the ".mailcap" file format (which many newer Gnome and KDE applications do
not), you can manually create this MIME association by examining the
contents ~/.mailcap and replicating their assignments.
Many associations will be set by default, because CrossOver associations that are set on the CrossOver server will be automatically set on the client during installation. You may wish to fine-tune these defaults in order to manage the different needs of users, and to resolve conflicts between applications on a given system.
