Installing CrossOver Linux Server using our graphical installer is a simple process that can be completed in a few minutes. You must be logged in as root to install.
Upgrading. You can upgrade a managed multi-user install of CrossOver Office to Server Edition. Otherwise if you already have CrossOver Office installed on your system, you should uninstall it before you install CrossOver Linux Server. For regular upgrades, simply run the installer for the new version. It will automatically preserve your settings as well as any software already installed.
You can install CrossOver Linux Server in several different modes. The installation mode will determine who can run CrossOver, where Windows software is installed, and who can run each Windows application.
When installed as a single user, the CrossOver environment will be set up for one account only. Only that user will be able to install and use Windows applications.
If you are installing CrossOver on a personal computer for private use, you should use this installation mode. It is the easiest, simplest, and safest installation method.
CrossOver Office Server Edition will not be installed in single user mode, however other users on the system may have installed CrossOver versions in their home directories.
$sh install-crossover-server-7.0.0.sh
Private multi-user mode allows you to install CrossOver so that each user on the system can install and run the Windows software of his or her choosing. Each user will have their own set of private bottles.
CrossOver Office Server Edition will not be installed in single user mode, however other users on the system may have installed CrossOver versions in their home directories.
Managed multi-user mode allows you to install Windows applications as root and make them available for each user on the system. Users will be able to configure and customize these applications, but will not be permitted to install their own software.

When CrossOver is installed in Managed multi-user mode, all new bottles created by the root user will be default to managed mode. Users will still have the ability to create private bottles as well. |
In comparison to private multi-user mode, Managed multi-user mode saves space and time by requiring only a single installation of each Windows application. However, some applications (those not properly designed for multi-user use) may perform erratically.
This installation mode is useful to system adminstrators who need to centrally manage all the software on a given system. Managed multi-user mode also simplifies the process of installing a standard suite of applications on a large number of systems via the buildrpm tool.
Customers using LTSP (the Linux Terminal Server Project) typically use Managed multi-user mode. This mode provides all the multi-user support necessary for LTSP and requires a minimum of storage space on the server. CodeWeavers does not currently support sound on LTSP, but it can often be made to work with a small amount of hand configuration.
