Can you generate me a log with the following command line?
CX_BOTTLE=win2000 /opt/cxoffice/bin/wine --verbose --debugmsg=+relay,,+trace,+seh,+setupapi --cx-log itunes.log.gz --cx-app itunes
And then try to connect the ipod and when you run in to problems just exit the app and send me the itunes.log.gz that is generated?
Thanks
Steven

After running that command, I cannot get iTunes to launch.

Can you try this instead?
CX_BOTTLE=win2000 ~/cxoffice/bin/wine
--debugmsg +relay,+ole,+seh,+setupapi --cx-log itunes.log --cx-app itunes
You can substitute ~ for /opt if you have installed it globally on the system. Even if that doesn't work, please email me itunes.log

Hi Rob, hi All,
any update on that issue. I do have exactly the same problem. I am also using SUSE 10.0 and crossoveroffice 5.0.0.
Athough I can access the ipod drive "D:" (showing the right folder structure) under iTunes, I get the same error message and the ipod (shuffle) is not visible in "preferences".
Thanks for any hint,
Uwe

No update on the issue as we can't reproduce it. Please follow the debugging instructions above to get us some useful information to try to solve the issue.

Hi,
I have the same problem. Configuring /mnt/ipod to the D: drive works fine, but the error
metioned is shown when I launch Itunes (CX5.0, mandriva2006). I was able to run the debug and I will mail the log to you (it's about 7MB).
Sven.

Thanks for the info. I've entered a bug into our bug database and we'll investigate this further. I'll update this ticket when there is progress.

Hi.
Can we get it clear if we should force dcom95 into the win2000 bottle. This doesn't work for me (itunes won't start afterwards). However it is clear that dcom95 is needed but not clear into which bottle it should be installed.
Regards,
Maron

Hi,
We have some updated files available that are necessary for iTunes to see the iPod. Follow these steps to install these updated files:
1. Go to http://dl.codeweavers.com and enter the access key of "cxipod" (without the quotes).
2. Save the file to disk.
3. From the command line, type "tar -xvzf ipodupdate.tar.gz" in the directory it was downloaded to.
4. Close all CrossOver applications and copy the update files into place with "cp ipodupdate/* ~/cxoffice/lib/wine". If you are using a multi-user install, replace "~/cxoffice/lib/wine" with "/opt/cxoffice/lib/wine" and run the command as root.
Note: the instructions in the FAQ (http://www.codeweavers.com/support/docs/crossover-pro/troubleshooting#ITUNES-IPOD) mostly still apply, but with some changes:
1. Item (6) about installing DCOM is no longer valid - we no longer require DCOM to be installed (and in fact it is highly recommended that you don't try to install DCOM into the win2000 bottle that iTunes will be installed into).
2. Your iPod must be mapped to the d: drive letter, no matter what the CX_IPOD_DRIVE enivoronment variable is set to. (run "ls -l ~/.cxoffice/bottlename/dosdevices/ | grep ipod" to see what drive letter it is mapped to).
The FAQ on the website will be updated soon.
We do remind you that using iPods with iTunes in CrossOver is unsupported, but will endeavour to answer questions that we know the answer to and fix the problems that we can.
Thanks,
Rob

Any update on this at all?
I have completed the steps described above on a completely new machine, new Linux build, new hardware (ipod shuffle), etc... I get the exact same thing I got before: "The software needed... (etc)" However, this time I tried it with Crossover Pro 5.0.3 instead of 5.0.0 as before.
I've tried the updates, I can see the appropriate file structure on the "D:" drive (/mnt/ipod), etc.
Thanks again!

We are going to be releasing a new version of CrossOver in the coming weeks and the ipod support will be retested for that release.
Thanks

We're up to CX 6.0.1 and this is still an issue.
What do we need to do to make it a higher priority? I love this product (crossover) and I've been a loyal customer since 3.x, but, at this point in time, syncing my ipod is the ONLY reason I have 30Gig of Windows around for... I'd love to be rid of it once and for all. ;)
Cheers!

I expect its still going to be broken in 6.1 also. We've spent most of our efforts working on making Office 2003 really stable and the ipod support has kind of bitrotted. I'm sorry there is nothing more I can do for this issue at this time.
Thanks
