Tips for trying to run unsupported games in Crossover Games.
In the winecfg control panel enable the virtual desktop and set the size of it to something smaller than your display resolution (i.e. 1024x768 or 800x600).
(Mac)
1 Launch Crossover
2 Go to 'Configure' and choose 'Manage Bottles'
3 Select the bottle
4 Select 'Control Panel'
5 Launch 'winecfg'
(Linux)
1 Go to 'Applications', and launch 'Crossover'
2 Select 'Manage Bottles'
3 Highlight the bottle
4 Select the 'Control Panel' tab
5 Launch 'winecfg'

Create and try installing into a brand new bottle.
Try different bottle types (win98, win2000, winXP).
You can also change the bottle type in the winecfg control panel, look for the dropdown menu labeled 'Windows Version'.

Install various service packs and dependencies into the same bottle with the unsupported app.
In Crossover's Install Software menu, locate the Runtime Support Components section, where you'll find the following packages (among others):
Microsoft DirectX Runtime (Download)
Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable
Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML)
Flash Player
Use the Crossover Run Command to try and start your unsupported Windows .exe
Maybe it's not an installer, maybe it's the actual program?
Advanced Users Only - In the winecfg control panel, under the Libraries tab, tweak the settings of various DLLs.
Try using the native Windows DLL, instead of the Crossover builtin DLL.

Look for your unsupported application in the winehq.org app database for clues on how you might get it to run.
Run the program to create a debug log and see if there's anything in the logfile that could say what's not working.
