Is your company getting its slice of the Billion $ macOS market?

If you’re the leader of a software development company who's engineered a successful, Windows-based application, you may have considered porting it to macOS. After all, if you could access a new and lucrative market, your company's sales and profitability should increase, and it could measurably accelerate the growth of your business. Seems simple and appealing enough. But experienced executives know that if something seems simple, it probably warrants closer examination. Since your company is probably an order of magnitude smaller than Oracle, when you decide to pursue a new market, the money for that venture usually comes out of your own pocket. You're presumably comfortable taking risks, but those risks need to be measured. You want a reasonably…

To Install or Not Install Windows On A Mac

Are you looking to run Windows apps on your Mac computer? You bought a Mac because of the design and functionality, but there is no native Mac version of your favorite PC game or productivity app. So do you install the latest Windows 10 on your macOS so you can use that one app?  You know you don’t want to have to use a second computer for a single program and there’s no way you’re switching to a PC full-time. In this article I weigh out your options for running your Windows apps on a Mac. We get this question often. At least once or twice a week. Usually a snarky social media comment, but nonetheless we get it. Why would anyone need Windows on a Mac? Well because there's: No Mac version of the softwareBetter games for WindowsAccess to…

Voting for The Wine Project Sticker is Now Open

Everyone knows the internet is the friendliest place on earth.  Cue Rrrrrrpppppp.  Record scratch. So when the honor of creating a WINE sticker for the Wine development community flew across my desk, you can imagine my pure delight. Cue Om shanti shanti om. Sarcasm. Not only was it decided that I would design the sticker (versus sending it to a graphic design shop), but it was also decided that I would wear these stickers on my sleeve and give the Wine Community, the CodeWeavers Community and anyone with a computer a vote as to which one they would like to represent the Wine Project. #blessed Now you are probably wondering why I am whining (no pun intended), why I begged and pleaded and bribed the owner and CEO of CodeWeavers to hire a…

The Times Are a Changing

When did it hit me that the times were a changin’ at CodeWeavers corporate Headquarters (and no it wasn’t when Bob Dylan got awarded the Noble Peace Prize for Literature)? Maybe it was when we introduced CrossOver on a platform not in our sandbox – ANDROID. Or when we lost our COO of 14 years to a new career opportunity, or rearranged the office (everyone had to move offices and have a new office mate), or chalk painted furniture, or had an office pet for a day, or when the conference room moved, or the standard monthly company meeting date moved after 20 years in existence (revolution). AND we bribed attendance with bagels instead of donuts. Or was it when everyone went from a Linux or macOS to a Windows system?Just checking to see if you are still…

The Marketing Blues

What’s giving marketing the blues this time of year when the sun is shining and the weather is sweet? Preliminary results of an A/B test we are running. Marketing is no stranger to unexpected A/B test results, like last year when our testing revealed that men don’t like buying softwarefrom women, in our blog post Selling Software, Sexist Google Data and what the actual Hell, Peopleelling Software, Sexist Google Data and what the actual Hell, People.Luckily, the current head scratching data that has been presented to us isn’t of the sexist kind. It’s of the “that’s impossible sort.” Obviously not impossible, because it’s happening, but I have zero rhyme or reason as to why two converting pages on our website, when graphically treated similarly…

CrossOver Android - We Have Bribes

A year ago, we gave you a sneak peak at our CrossOver Android development. At GDC in March, we showed up with CrossOver Android supporting LIMBO and the Steam Client. And with Google’s announcement last week that Chromebooks will soon be supporting Android apps, we wanted to share that its very likely you will soon be able to run Windows applications on Chrome OS with CrossOver Android! Bear in mind that CrossOver Android is still very much a work in progress. We’ve spent the better part of the past two years building the framework for supporting Windows applications on Android, and it's far from finished. But to that point, we’d like to bribe you into telling us what you think should we should focus on for CrossOver Android development. For those…

May the Fourth, the Fifth, the Sixth Be With You

A long time ago in a blog post far, far away I absolved my inclination to watch Star Wars and left it up to the voting public to decide my Star Wars viewing fate. 80% of you responded that I should, indeed lose my Star Wars virginity. 173 days later, I have not made good on my debt. I’ve started countless blog posts riddled with excuses as to why I haven’t watched Star Wars. I’m constantly surrounded by mementos of my failed follow through. The Darth Vadar pajamas I lounged in all winter, light saber bubbles that filled the children’s Easter Baskets, the Chewbacca build-a-bear that finds the most vicarious hiding places, how any stick can turn into a gimer stick, Star Wars SPF in the skincare section, 23 Ways to Throw the Best Star Wars Birthday…
