ST. PAUL, MN - (October 27, 2003) - CodeWeavers, Inc., the leading Windows®-to-Linux® software developer, today announced new versions of CrossOver Office and CrossOver Office Server Edition, two products that enable today's most popular Windows-based applications to run within the Linux operating system without a Windows OS license. Leading the pack is CrossOver Office 2.1, now supporting Macromedia® Dreamweaver MX® and Flash MX under Linux-no Windows operating system or emulator needed.
"CrossOver Office has become the product of choice for Linux users who wish to easily and dependably use professional office automation applications including Microsoft Office XP, Access, Visio, Lotus Notes, and Intuit's Quicken," said Jeremy White, CEO of CodeWeavers. "Now, with additional support for Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and Flash MX, combined with our existing support for Adobe Photoshop, CrossOver Office 2.1 gives web developers and design firms the first Linux solution for their most important design applications."
"Macromedia is committed to supporting our customers in the technologies they choose," said Susan Morrow, vice president of product management, Macromedia. "We are excited to see how Linux developers will use CrossOver Office 2.1 with its support for Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and Flash MX."
Among the many other upgrades and fixes in CrossOver Office 2.1 is its support for all known versions of glibc, the GNU C library that defines critical system calls and other basic Linux functions. This improvement enables better multithreading-the ability of an operating system to execute different parts of an application simultaneously-especially in enterprise server environments.
Leading Web Development Solutions
Macromedia's Dreamweaver is the market leading, professional choice for building web sites and applications. More than 3.2 million web developers use Dreamweaver for its powerful combination of visual layout tools, application development features, and code editing support. Macromedia Flash is the industry leading solution for developing highly visual interactive content and applications that deliver breakthrough experiences with significant return on investment.
Major Software Savings
CrossOver Office, introduced last year by CodeWeavers, has become a highly popular solution for individuals and organizations wanting to run key Windows applications in the Linux operating environment. By eliminating the need for Windows emulators and Microsoft OS licensing fees, CrossOver Office saves Linux-based enterprises two ways-the low costs associated with Linux, plus the direct access to Windows-based products without purchasing additional transitional software.
Other New Product Upgrades
Also announced today by CodeWeavers is Version 2.1 of CrossOver Office Server Edition, featuring a number of operational fixes that improve performance and ease-of-use. CrossOver Office Server Edition enables enterprise users to operate their most valuable productivity applications, including Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Lotus Notes, and Visio, in a distributed thin client environment for both Linux and Solaris.
A new upgrade for CrossOver Plugin, CodeWeavers' other major Windows-to-Linux product, is currently in final development and will be announced shortly. CrossOver Plugin is an Internet browser adapter that supports popular browser plug-ins such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, eFax, iPIX, QuickTime, Real Player, Shockwave Director, Windows Media Player, Macromedia Flash, and others.
CodeWeavers' CrossOver product line supports all major Linux distributions including Red Hat, Mandrake, and SuSE Linux. CrossOver Office 2.1 is priced at $59.95 per user; CrossOver Plugin is priced at $29.95 per user, while both products are available at a bundled price of $69.95. Workgroup, site, and enterprise license discounts are available.
CrossOver Office Server Edition 2.1 carries a price of $1,195 for the server software, with a concurrent-user seat license of 25 users available for an additional $1,319. Other pricing options are offered for larger or unlimited numbers of users.
