Pops Launch Screen, but closes immediately

I Installed a steam bottle under crossover 20 and now pops the launch screen (version 19 don't even show the screen) installed c++ runtime which seems to be missing from bottle but nothing happens, any suggestions?

You can try it with ESYNC off or look for Linux Proton database for any possible tips

thanks, what actually helped to run the game was checking "DXVK backend for D3D11", now the game launches but a neither multiplayer o single player game can be launched

backtrace.txt

Few things to try

  1. Configure -> Install Sotware -> DXVK
  2. Configure -> Install Sotware -> C++ 2015
  3. Configure -> Install Sotware -> DirectX for Modern Games

If AOEII still doesn't work You can add "native, builtin" dll override for "concrt140.dll" in "Wine configuration".
And according to Wine appdb (https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=38430) it also needs dll override for "d3dx9_43" to "native".
Instaling .NET 4.5.2 could also sometimes help.

EDIT: It will need CrossOver update to Wine 5.13 and all of the Valve patches upstreamed as it is just made compatible with Linux Proton

Hi all,

I did these 3 things and it seems to work fine now

  1. Configure -> Install Sotware -> DXVK
  2. Configure -> Install Sotware -> C++ 2015
  3. Configure -> Install Sotware -> DirectX for Modern Games

Thanks a lot!

Hi, still a no go here on my Mini2020 with a CoreX eGPU : would you be king enough to show me exactly what you put into your bottle ? Thanks by advance.

Hello there. Got it finally working after adding « SKIPINTRO » to the launch executable. Thank you very much for the useful help.

Hopefully we’ll get AoEDE and AoE3DE working too !

Hello !

I have the same issue with the last version of CrossOver (20.0.2- in trial mode to test specifically this game). I have macOS Catalina 10.15.7.
The app doesn't launch (just the start screen with the 3 characters).
I created a Windows 10 - x64 bootle with steam and install the game via steam.
I installed on this bottle the 3 apps : DXVK, C++ 2015 and DirectX for Modern Games and launched with "SKIPINTRO" but it doesn't changed anything.

Any Idea ?

Thanks a lot !

Edit : I checked "DXVK backend for D3D11" on the bottle parameters and now have a black screen.

Edit 2 : I added "SKIPINTRO" on Steam launch game options and it worked ! Thanks

Welcoming any other tips if anyone has any... I am still unable to run AoE2:DE after reading through & attempting the fixes in this thread.

Installed DXVK, enabled it, installed DirectX for Modern Games, installed C++. Tried Win7 and 10 bottles. Have the SKIPINTRO flag set on the launch options. Messed around with a few library overrides...

No matter whether I run the game through Steam or directly hit the exe, same issue: it runs for a few seconds, nothing at all shows up on the screen (no black screen or anything), and it quits and pops out a log file in c:\users\crossover\games... ending with "Exception type 0xc0000005 occurred at 0000000141cfccaa"

Using CrossOver 20.0.2 (Trial) on macOS Big Sur.

It's happening again.

sorry if my previous post was unpolite, it seems that proton users suffer from the same issue, also, it seems that the problem originated in Hotfix 43210 in November 2020.

Hola Raul and hi everyone!

Me encuentro en la misma situación. Raul, conseguiste solucionarlo?

Gracias
