Runtime error when playing Everquest...Help please

Hi guys,

I have copied and pasted this from a support ticket i have opened hoping that you guy's may be able to offer advise

When playing Everquest (SOD Client) via crossover games it often crashes with a Runtime Error

Microsoft Visual C+ + Runtime Library

Runtime Error !

Program; C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest\eqgame.exe

abnormal program termination

This has happened playing different characters in different zones, it has happened when i am stood still in a zone, sat, in combat and zoning to a different level. I am not running any other application in the background. I have also turned the Pixel shaders off (which resolved a previous graphics issue) but this issue still occurs with or without them

I have performed a full scan of the files but this has not helped

Thanks in advance

Stuart

Stuart,

You need to run the command c:\program Files\Sony\everquest\eqgame.exe patchme - this effectively replaces the station launcher process which updates the files etc before the system starts.

You have got further than I have, as I am having trouble figuring out how and where to copy the EQ files to, and then how to initiate the application. I get frustrated when I dbl click on something and it does nothing!?

Do you have any suggestions to help me?

John'

John, you're having a had time copying the EQ files from an old Windows system or from another Crossover bottle? EQ is one of the few apps that you might consider "simple" as in it doesn't utilize the registry like others. you can simply take your ...\Sony\Everquest\ folder and copy the whole thing to a new system. if i remember correctly the patcher might complain about the location and then ask if you want it to fix itself. over the years i've done this three or four times and it's worked every time. i also remember if you install it via Crossover it will pick the correct file to execute but if you copy the folder into a bottle you have to setup your own menu entry. have you tried using the "Clear and Rebuild Program Menu..."?

i'm i off base here? do you have more information you could pass us so we can assist?

well, hope that helps a little 😉

jollyjoejimbob,

Thanks for your comments, I am not sure how much of my problems are lack of familiarity with the mac, or using the "bottles"

I create a bottle, and copy the "Sony online entertainment" folder over.

I then cannot find a way to run eqgame.exe with a parameter of "patchme". I thought this was necessary to get this going. I found somethig once where I could specify a run command, but have not found it since.

So I have a good Everquest directory installed, and the only thing I can run is eqgame.exe (using "Crossover Games") without a parameter, and nothing happens.

Would be nice if I could create a menu.

John

I am using CO for Games 9.1 with a MBP 15 i7 with OSX 10.6.4 - everything is fully patched.

I was attempting to use the Titanium client, and run the eqgame.exe patchme command.

Installation went fine, however when attempting to run eqgame.exe patchme, I get the error "The program eqgame.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience", and trace below. Any thoughts?

I have tried many things based upon suggestions here and throughout the web, no luck. I dont think the current version of cross over gamers will get Everquest to work reasonably on the latest Mac Pro. At my last try, I had the game sort of running, but I had to remove shading (though I dont think this had a major effect). My graphics kept flickering very frequently.

I would seriously downgrade the rating for everquest on Crossover games.

I did get it running using Bootcamp and Windows XP (I picked up a good copy for $60 through EBAY) using a .Bat file with eqgame patchme in it. That is running very well. (Please note that the file "Everquest.exe" does not seem to exist anymore, it has been replaced by eqgame.exe.)

When Sony made some changes to EQ recently in advance of the new expansion (17) I had to run Station launcher on my Windows machine to get the files updated (not using the expansion), and then copy over the Everquest directory files (dont need sub-directories) before this .bat file would run properly. Now all is fine .. so far .. My only purpose to hold Crossover Games now is in case I play any of these newer games that are supported.

BTW Tork - I have never seen anyone send an error dump like that on these forums before, and I believe no one will use that for any purpose. It just takes up too much space.

As a final note, I have been unable to make a ticket to Crossover games related to my problems.

Hi,

Why is that? You should be able to submit a ticket via the ticket system. If not, you can
email info@codeweavers.com to the same ends - the email will get hoisted into the ticket system.

Cheers!

Dito on the trace back reported by for Everquest Titanium by Tork.

Tried both DirectX from Crossover and a clean install using the one supplied on the EQ disk. Replacing the d3x9_30.dll does not have an effect on this issue.

I was able to install and run Everquest Anniversary, it has issues with the mouse not moving from the center of the screen when cross over has focus.

One other thing, if you use the control panel to configure a virtual desktop, you will see a "No 3D Device Found" before the crash.
