Guild Wars 2 - READ ME FIRST

[b]Update![\b] New builds uploaded 8/30/2012, 7:00 p.m. CST. I'm hopeful they fix the 'black screen' problems with the last set. 😉

In order to have the best chance of running Guild Wars 2 in CrossOver, you will need to download a special, unsupported version of CrossOver from this link:

http://www.codeweavers.com/xfer/GW2Test/

(use the key 'guildwars' to download, when prompted)

If you are on a Mac computer with an Nvidia graphics card, you may experience graphics glitches which will make the game impossible to play where there is 'rain' or fog in-game. A lot of users may get poor framerates as well, some will get playable ones.

To install, simply search for 'Guild Wars 2' in the 'Install Software' menu and either insert your Guild Wars 2 CD, or make sure you have downloaded 'Gw2Setup.exe' from ArenaNet, and point CrossOver at that.

Note: the installer will appear to fail several times and go back to '0% complete.' This does not mean it is not making progress. Look at the number of files that the installer says are remaining to download. That number will drop, and after it has downloaded a total of around 14G, it will succeed.

Also - with this build, if you want to cancel the installer, you have to do so by clicking 'Cancel' (the small 'x') in the CrossOver software installer. Simply killing Guild Wars 2 will result in it re-starting several times.

When you are using this build, you should never allow CrossOver to update your CrossTies, as that will make the Guild Wars 2 installer recipe go away. If you do accidentally update, just re-install this special CrossOver version and go from there.

You will also not want to permit CrossOver to install any updates to itself.

You may see reference to several problems on the forums which are alleviated by this build. In particular, you should no longer have these issues:

  • Don't worry about re-starting the installer due to failed downloads. That will happen automatically.
  • You don't need to pass '-dx9single' anymore: you can ignore that.
  • This version of CrossOver will recognize a physical install CD for Guild Wars 2
  • You don't have to worry about downloading 'Gw2.exe' instead of the regular 'Gw2Setup.exe' : 'Gw2Setup.exe' will work
  • The in-game Gem Store will work
  • You shouldn't have to mess with registry keys by and large, although you can still tweak things if you know how (may not be true for linux users)

As stated elsewhere, Please, Please try before you by. Guild Wars 2 is still unsupported and some users may experience problems (in particular you may see bad framerates, and if you have an Nvidia Mac you may see white splotches everywhere). However, quite a few people seem able to get good gameplay. These builds are trials just like regular CrossOver. If you already own CrossOver, they will recognize that you do and be fine. If not, they will expire after a trial period, but if, at that point, things work for you and you want to purchase, you will be able to the same as with our regular trial version.

Please share your experiences, and good luck!

Josh.
