Hi. I am a dopey noob I am sorry to say but have been having no luck trying to make Homeworld 2 run. I have installed sucessfully (as far as I can tell) but am getting the Please Install Homeworld 2 CD error message. I have got the CD inserted of course and OS X can see it. I have looked in the wincfg thingy and that shows the drive D as /VOLUMES/Homeworld 2 which seems promising but its still now working. Any thought?

I had the same problem (mac, 7.2.1), but I managed to fix it by:
1) copying the installed 1.0 to a windows vm (virtualbox)
2) running the 1.1 patch
3) copying it back to mac
4) http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/dmca
A pain I know, but it's working for me now 😊 Of course this solution requires a copy of windows, which kinda defeats the point...
