reinstall itunes, software can't communicate with the ipod

Has anyone had the problem, where iTunes states "the software for comunicating with the ipod was not installed properly. To fix the problem please reinstall itunes"???

I've reinstalled iTunes a few times with no luck, any suggestions?

This generally means you have not installed dcom95 and have not done the registry fix.

Take a look at step 8 on Tips and Tricks.

where is step 8 on tips and tricks seems it does not exist?
I have this "warning..."

The tips and tricks have been rewritten since then,

The important thing is to install dcom95 using CrossOver Setup and make sure you have , as your user, run:

cxoffice/bin/cxipod --user

-aric

i reinstalled dcom95, set usb support and scsi device support up such that
plugging in my ipod i get:
usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8
scsi8 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
usb-storage: device found at 8
usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning

with cxoffice/bin/cxipod --ipod-setup , and cxoffice/bin/cxipod --mount
mounts ipod at /mnt/ipod:
df -h says:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda2 15G 4.3G 9.8G 31% /
tmpfs 442M 0 442M 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sdb2 19G 24M 19G 1% /mnt/ipod
starting iTunes i still get subject "reinstall..." message, and ipod remains undetected. This is debian-unstable, kernel 2.6.1--rc3, scsi sda, dual cpu box.
