It Works!!!

Hi,
I finally managed to make iTunes work in wine 0.9.8! The latest version does NOT work correctly for the reason explained in my previous post, but iTunes 6.0.1 will. Follow the directions at http://frankscorner.org/index.php?p=itunes6. However, the setup program will NOT give an error, rahter it will get into an infinate loop installing Quicktime 7, so kill it at that point. Other than that the directions work perfectly. Notice that the installer will appear to crach at various point during the install. Do NOT kill it. On my system I sometimes have to wait 10min for it to start going again!

Thanks,
Matthew D'Asaro

I can't seem to get that website to work...

Warning: main(pages/itunes6..txt): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/fcorner/public_html/index.php on line 207

Warning: main(): Failed opening 'pages/itunes6..txt' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/fcorner/public_html/index.php on line 207

I've tried in multiple browsers.

It should be http://frankscorner.org/index.php?p=itunes6 instead of
http://frankscorner.org/index.php?p=itunes6.

Sorry, the "." at the end of my sentence managed to get included in the URL! As Frank said, http://frankscorner.org/index.php?p=itunes6 is correct.

I tried to install this by naively porting the instructions to crossover office 5.0.1. However, the install of itunes failed. Also, quicktime 7 runs poorly (menus stay up indefinitely etc.) However, I didn't know how to set the virtual desktop size in crossover; so, I skipped that step. Do you know a way to do this (or an equivalent crossover step)? I am interested in getting this procedure to work in crossover without having to install a separate instance of wine.

Hi,
It will work in CrossOver 5! Follow the directions in the "Tips and Tricks" for an exact procedure. As for changing the desktop size, that is also described in "Tips and Tricks" but basically you need to select "Run a Windows Command" from the "CrossOver" menu, select the bottle where iTunes in installed, and type "winecfg" without the quotes into the command field. Press Run, and then proceed as if in Wine.

Thanks,
Matthew D'Asaro

Hi there.

I allmost a complete Linux noob but following your instructions managed to install iTunes! (wine 0.9.10, iTunes 6.01, Suse 10.0)

It's actually quite nippy on my dual Xeon machine. Once it gets going anyway :P

Can I just ask has anyone tried using their ipod yet? Or shall I be the first one to try?

Paul.
