Update Ubuntu 10.04 to 2.6.32-42-generic, LOTRO won't start

This morning I updated my Ubuntu 10.04 to the 2.6.32-42-generic kernel and now after entering my password into PyLotRO and getting authenticated, my screen goes black for a couple of seconds then I get the 'Output' with the text ' Finished '.

As part of the update it looks live the nvidia driver was updated as well to nvidia-185 - 302.17-Oububtu1-lucid-xup2 so I wonder if that is what is causing this.

I checked the .xsession-erros file and saw:

Window manager warning: Invalid WM_TRANSIENT_FOR window 0x4800001 specified for 0x4800003 (Output).
Window manager warning: Treating resize request of legacy application 0x4c00003 (The Lord o) as a fullscreen request

But I don't know if that is relevant.

I also tried booting into the previous kernel but no luck there either.

I'm using cxgames 10.1.0.

Thank you.

Ok, here's some more information.

I have the game running on another machine (albeit slowly) using an older Nvidia card but under Ubuntu 10.04 2.6.32-36-generic-pae and the nvidia-current-195.36.24-OUbuntu1-10.04.1 driver.

I checked .cxgames/Lord of...../Local Settings/Application Data/The Lord of the Rings Online/lotroclient.log on both machines and everything is the same until:

000000000.000: gmClient::AttachMembersCurrent locale set to English_United States.1252

and on the broken machine there is nothing after this line.

That is, I am missing these lines:

000000000.000: gmClient::AttachMembersClient ready
000000005.725: Client::Connect() async logon begun.

061921491.069: GlobalEventHandler::RecvEvt_CharSet: called.
061921514.749: gmLoadScreenUI::Create: called.
etc.

So, it looks like it's failing in gmClient. The obvious question would be 'Why?' .....

Thank you.

I have to thank Andrew Balfour's pinned 'Run completely fullscreen' post for the solution.

I got to thinking about the UserPreferences.ini file and tried changing a few things with no success so I moved the file out the documents folder then started PyLotRO and BINGO, it came up!

The resolution was wrong so I changed it back to 1920 x 1080 and it was still working.

I hope this helps someone in the future.

Cheers all.
