When I tried to install it directly from the DVD, it gets hung up on something called "Saferun.exe," and the install fails. I attempted a manual install as suggested on the Mass Effect forums, but the game fails to launch. In addition, the configuration utility hangs while attempting to gather system info.
I have this game installed fine using the steam version, but it fails to start up
I had the same error when installing from the DVD, at 20% extraction of data02.rar. After looking at a Mass Effect Community forum post the culprit is simply a dirty disk. After taking alcohol to the disk, the installation continue fine after that point.
