UBUNTU 8.10 64 POWERPOINT NO SOUND and crfash

THIS WORK TO ME. HOPPE CAN HELPS SOMEONE..

1- GET THE Fraunhofer MP3 Codec Pro v1.263.exe ( search web, easy to find).
2- Install in your office xp instalation bottle.
3- Copy from your installed GET THE Fraunhofer MP3 Codec Pro v1.263.exe directory the file l3codecp.acm to bottle system32 folder with name winemp3.acm ( for some reason if i change the name this doesnt work).
4- under bottle office instalation root edit the user.reg file.
5- Add at user.reg file this lines:
[Software\Wine\DirectSound] 1230735873
"EmulDriver"="Y"

[Software\Wine\Drivers] 1230735873
"Audio"="oss"

under
[Software\Wine\DllOverrides]
"winemp3.acm"="native"

save
and try to use yor powerpoint.

All failure and no sounds seems to happens because the default audio codec become under failure.
What i do was just change the codec for another one and seems work.
If not work well with other kind of sounds. try to use last wine to install and test your office. the same solution you get under wine you just use in crossover linux. ( wine seems more easy to configure to discover problems).

Hoppe help

Fred, your post is also helpful to hear audio in powerpoint presentations in Crossover 7.1.0 on Mac OS X. The MP3 codec was downloaded from free-codecs.com

On the Mac crossover steps 4 and 5 can be replaced by:
4- Start the CrossOver application
5- From the menu bar, choose "Configure" > "Manage Bottles..."
6- Goto tab "Control Panel"
7- Select "winecfg", and choose the button "Launch selected item"
8- In tab "Sound", check the bottom box "Driver emulation"
9- In tab "Libraries", goto field "New override for dll", and type there "winemp3.acm", and choose button "Add"
10- Now find that created "winemp3.acm" entry in the list below, choose button "Edit" and choose "Native (Windows)"
11- Confirm the two opened windows with "OK"
