Game On Crossover 8.1.0 Ubuntu 9.10
  1. Game installs just fine, but game play is so far impossible
  2. Game loads kinda funky asking if you want to run in safe mode setting
  3. Changing resoultion size logged me out of my current ubuntu session

this is what i ahve so far ill keep trying to get it to run

I've got the same issues, every now and then I can actually get in the game and play a bit, but that is not very often and very random.

I found that this is true with COG 8.1.4 as well.

Did you try

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D]
"OffscreenRenderingMode"="fbo"
"UseGLSL"="enabled"
"VideoMemorySize"="256"

already? Taken from

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=5612&iTestingId=5530

Yes, that is the first thing I did.

Hi,

I just noticed further down on that Wine page linked above,
under the 'Inversion' thread, that the registry key used is
quite different..unfortunately speaking, winehq postings many
times lack exact information on what hardware was being used
to get those results (most of the time you can 'guess' winehq
postings are wrt linux unless otherwise stated, but exactly
which videocard/chipset/drivers were being used at the time
remains a mystery). That said, even if they are all linux
based reports, it looks to me like there's great disparity of
results - it's enough to make me suspect this title's performance
in crossover/wine is somehow going to be directly related to
what videocard hardware/drivers you are using, and how good
your opengl library hooks are that they provide..

...if you look at all of that winehq thread, perhaps the one
common strand look like the game's hardware setup routine is
having difficulty detecting an appropriate video display device
and/or getting it entirely wrong. I would certainly have already
installed directx runtime into the bottle to see if that altered
things any...

At any rate...the same thing happening over at winehq is happening
here too obviously..<grin>...that is, if what I speculate above is
correct wrt hardware/driver constraints, the only way to track that
down is for people to mention not only what OS they are using, but
also which videocard/drivers are being used to help 'expose' any
trends like that...ie; works on this hardware, doesn't work on that
hardware kind of effect (-;

Cheers!
