Printing out

I've got it to work fine except it won't print out anything. Click on print and the dialogue box disappears and Quicken shows it as printed but nothing. Using Epson CX5400 on a USB port. Printer shows as selected. Same on Ubuntu, SuSE and Mandrake. Am running under VMWare whilst I trial Linux distros before a full switchg. Am "comfortable" with Linux but no way near an expert so can you give me plain instructions?
