Laggy/Low FPS

I have been able to install iRO fine, however I can not run it at anything her than 800x600 without encountering a crippling of my frame rate. To the extent that I am unable to move my mouse or click on anything. Have other users encountered this issue? Is there any known work around?

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 with the proprietary ATI drivers installed. The hardware is i5 Intel, 4Gb Memory, ATI 5770; all well above spec for our little game. I have heard of issues with ATI cards and wine in the past, but I am unclear as to if that is the problem here or not.

Any input would be well appreciated.
