What does the C4P for Steam to do that the built-in method does not?

Afaik, nothing - both methods are the same (or should be)

But one is done by advocates and one is done by staff, correct? So they would only line up through coincidence, right?

Yes, the C4P downloadable for Steam is maintained by Codeweavers staff,
not by coincidence, but more as part of the design of being 'Officially
Supported'....the fact the 2 versions 'match', at present, is more a
corollary of the C4P system's alpha status...(or whatever status it
currently least WIP fits ;); the next release of Crossover,
your local version (of builtin c4p installers) will be able to update
live as it were...and thus when that happens, the 2 will 'match' more
as part of the C4P system's overall functionality. You should see this
in the next beta release, which is due 'any time soon now' ;)

Awesome, thanks! :)
