How to Install Steam Games?
I've got the Steam .tie loaded and running. But, I'm wondering if I have to do anything special to install games into it. Do I just install them as normal in Steam? Or, do I have to do something at the bottle level?
You could do that, but usually Steam is "dragged" in as a per-requisite when installing various games. Search for the game you want to install the same way you searched for Steam. If there is a crosstie for the game, use it. Read the Tips & Tricks. Sometimes there are some additional adjustments needed for some of the games.
If your game requires DirectX10/11 don't bother.
Thanks. I've gone through the Tips & Tricks for Steam:
but don't see anything about how to install Steam games. Ditto for the FAQ:
I think I'm having issues because I'm thinking of things backwards. Re-reading the Overview tab for Steam:
"This entry covers just the GUI components of the Steam system, including Friends."
So, I guess this Steam .tie is just about the Steam GUI. For games, I'm supposed to do as you say and get them separately.
I did not mean the Tips&Tricks for Steam. Find your game using the search field on the top of the page. If the game has a crosstie, use it. Make sure to select the bottle where Steam was installed previously.
It's generally a good idea to install your games in separate bottles... some crossties modify registry settings that could break other games, for example.
