Is there a reason that Steam is slow to access the web? Or is this the case with all Web connected apps run on the mac? I am a noob.

Is there a reason that Steam is slow to access the web? Or is this the case with all Web connected apps run on the mac? I am a noob.
Using Linux, I don't seem to have any speed issues. Using Windows, it is slightly faster but not by much. I run a dual boot machine. I used to boot Windows to run steam and play steam based games. Now I run them all in Linux. Some times I'll reboot to run Company of Heroes with Windows..... its a little glitchy with Linux.
