TF2 exits while trying to start a game.

When trying to start a game in TF2, I reach the menu, but while trying to load a game I see "connecting to server", and then the game exits without any further information.

System:
Intel Core i7
6GB DDR3
AMD Radeon 6950, Fglrx version 11005 (OpenGL 4.1)
Ubuntu 11.10

Any tips on how to troubleshoot this further?
