Mac Pro in 64-bit mode crashing

Running Lion (10.7.3) in 64-bit mode/Mac Pro SP 2.66/12GB/Radeon HD 4870/CrossOver Games 10.3.0
I wonder if this is a known issue and whether there is a hack to get Skyrim to stop crashing.

After about 5 minutes, my fans start spinning at high rpm. After another 15-25 minutes of playtime, Skyrim freezes and CrossOver becomes unresponsive. After leaving it frozen for about 5 minutes, I force quit and started back up where I last saved. Booting back into 32-bit mode, the problem goes away. This is disappointing since I have loaded the system with a good amount of RAM. Any workaround, or am I stuck having to reboot into 32-bit mode when I want to play?
