The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Forum

I decided to try Crossover, to see if it would play this game (a must-have for me) on a newer computer that will not run my WinXP license in Bootcamp. So far, Steam starts, downloads Skyrim, download the mods, gets to the loading screen (with shaders turned to medium) and then loads indefinitely. The only similar problem report I could find involves patching WINE itself, but would this actually fix the problem in Crossover? http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29144#c2

I changed the dll referenced in the other thread, with no change, so I assume it was unrelated, and wondered how to implement the fix above.

The system here is a 27" iMac with a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 and AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB graphics.

Make sure you're using the Skyrim entry in Crossover. You can also initiate the install by going to http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=9766 and clicking the green Install Skyrim button. This will create and prep a new bottle in Crossover with required dependencies and install a new copy of Steam. In that copy of Steam install Skyrim and it should work.

That was how I loaded it the first time, but I did the process again, and after repeatedly restarting it, it eventually worked, but it turns out I am afflicted by the bug in this ticket 887746, so it doesn't look like Crossover is going to work for now. Thanks.
