I had this issue twice now, so here's for anyone else who may have it.
(Ubuntu 9.10 / CXG 8.1.4)

Issue: WoW installs fine, CXG adds launcher to desktop but launcher does not actually load the game.

Fix:

1. Might as well just remove the pretty little WoW launcher, and start a new.
2. Go to Applications -> Crossover Games -> Run a Windows Command.
3. Browse to "Program Files\World of Warcraft\Wow.exe" and hit open.
4. At this point, you can chose to Run it to test it first, or click Create Shortcut to put a Wine launcher on your desktop for it.

Let me know if this doesn't work for you as our configurations may be different!
