Laser Chess

First Appearances The original Laser Chess first appeared in a 1987 COMPUTE!'s Atari ST Disk & Magazine. It won the $5,000 first prize in a $10,000 programming. It was written by Mike Duppong. Laser Chess was written using a programming language called Modula-2. Later in 1987 other editions of that interesting game appeared, written in BASIC, for Commodore 64, Apple II, Atari XL and XE. It also appeared on the Amiga (using Microsoft Amiga Basic) and for DOS (in assembly). Althou the game was most popular on all of the computers, it was specially beloved by Amiga users because they were the ones who got to play Advanced Laser Chess, a worthy sequel to Laser Chess. Newer Laser Chess Games Over the years, more modern editions of Laser Chess have appeared. Some try to be a straight implementation of the original game and some are so different that they only have a few pieces in common with the original game. (And in all fairness, there have always been games with laser beams, mirrors, kings or flags which weren't called Laser Chess) On www.laserchess.org, we try to provide Laser Chess and Advanced Laser Chess games that are honest to the original editions in game play, allow you to play the game over the Internet, and will provide extra features such as custom boards, extra players, and new pieces.
