How to get photoshop to recognize ALT key under KDE
There are tools in Photoshop, that work differently if you're holding ALT while using them. Unfortunately, if you run Photoshop under KDE and are using default settings, pressing ALT key will only result in moving the window containing Photoshop.
To fix that:

Open KDE Control Center -> Look&Feel -> Windows behaviour -> second rollout and change your settings so holding ALT no longer moves or resizes windows. KDE 3.4 users can find this setting not at the section Look&Feel but at the Desktop section, on the Actions tab and it is called the "modifier key".

This was "borrowed" from the Tips&Tricks for Photoshop 6.0
