Deus Ex Tips

Adjust Brightness/Contrast In Game Under Mac CXG 10.x

When running Deus Ex within a virtual wine desktop, CrossOver Games (CXG) will not allow the game to adjust your monitor's brightness/contrast.  On newer displays this makes gameplay difficult because many maps appear too dark to see properly.  Many people have problems running the game in full screen mode under CXG 10.x because the cursor gets stuck at the top of the screen.

So to enable CXG to adjust the monitor's brightness/contrast within Deus Ex while running within a virtual wine desktop, quit CXG, open Terminal and execute the appropriate command exactly as-is:
defaults write com.codeweavers.CrossOverGames AllowGamma always

Then relaunch Deus Ex and set the monitor brightness/contrast to whatever you like.  Note you'll see the entire monitor, not just the wine window, update based on whatever you set.  But once you quit the game or switch out to another app, the original monitor's profile will be restored immediately.
