Diablo III Tips

Fix: Ubuntu 12.04 Unable to authenticate on login

Platform: 64-bit Xubuntu 12.04

When attempting to login, the game would freeze at the Authentication phase. I did not receive any errors, although forums suggest that others may see Error 3007. The generally-accepted solution seems to be to disable ptrace scope security:
sudo echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope
sudo sed -i 's/kernel.yama.ptrace_scope = 1/kernel.yama.ptrace_scope = 0/' /etc/sysctl.d/10-ptrace.conf
Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of this - it allows processes the ability to ptrace other processes' memory, even those which they have no relationship to. More importantly, it requires root access to make such a global change. But - to date - this is the only solution I've come across, and its necessity is due to the architecture of Diablo 3 itself.
