Fallout 2 Tips

Accelerated mouse movement, avoid crashes when zoning

Installing Fallout 2 in a win2000 bottle; then installing the 1.02 patch (from http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=category&cat_id=16); the game runs basically perfectly (without the patch, it freezes and crashes early on).

If you are having issues with mouse movement (sluggish, jumps around a bit); install sfall from http://timeslip.chorrol.com/sfall.html, by copying it into your fallout 2 directory (~/Library/Application Support/Crossover Games/Bottles/<BottleName>/drive_c/Program Files/BlackIsle/Fallout2 by default on a Mac) -- then running 'winecfg' in the bottle and changing ddraw to "Native then Builtin" (native, builtin). You can edit sfall settings in ddraw.ini in the Fallout 2 directory.

Please note that the resolution options in ddraw.ini (installed with sfall) do not work properly; if you want the game to run in a window you will need to use a virtual desktop ("Emulate a virtual desktop" under "Graphics" in winecfg).
