Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition Tips

Graphics Rending via Bloom

If you're seeing issues with graphics rendering such as entire tiles of graphics within the game appearing as a single color, sometimes shifting between a single color and the fully-rendered graphics within that tile (this was noticeable for me at the very beginning of the game where you crawl around as an infant), try the following setting from the Options menu before launching into the actual game:

Options --> Screen Effects --> Bloom

The default option "HDR" seems to rely on DirectX for rendering, triggering the issue.  This option was tested successfully against the Steam Edition of Fallout 3 (Game of the Year Edition) without any mods or additional patches installed.  It may work as well on non-Steam builds as well, but I haven't tested.
