Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition Tips

How To: (OLD)

NOTE: Looks like recent Fallout 3 patches added new features, because now these tip doesn't work and game won't even launch.
First of all you must be sure that GLSL is enabled:
from the Menu run Programs->Run Command, choose your bottle, type in the Command box "regedit" and press Run, go to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D key in the left, select useGLSL in the right panel, if it is not set to "enabled" do that.

Run the game usually (FalloutLauncher.exe will be launched). Choose your settings and close the splash window (sometimes, hitting play works, but almost all the time it will give you the message about No Sound).

Go to the Fallout 3 folder and install from there:
1) VCRedist: as usual go to the CX:Games Configure->Install Software menu, choose install unsupported software, select Fallout 3 bottle, choose the file vcredist_x86.exe in the VCRedist folder, follow onscreen instructions.
2) DirectX: do the same as above, but choose DXSetup.exe in the DirectX9c folder.
3) Go to the M$ web site and download this http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=d6a69b9f-2aef-4125-b162-edf0ae922caf. Save it somewhere. Do steps like above but choose this downloaded package.
Note: You'll also need to find out and copy the file "xinput1_3.dll" to the C:\Windows\system32 folder in bottle.

Now Run Fallout3.exe file from the Fallout 3 folder. Game will launch.

You will see the mouse stuck in the middle of the screen. At this point (with the current WINE release in the CX:Games package) you could do only this: go to the Documents\My Games\Fallout 3 and open Fallout3.ini file. find there line "bBackground Mouse=0" change "0" to "1".
Run the game. Clicks may work badly (need to perform a few clicks to click on items) but the ouse will be released.
