Glyph Client Tips

Working around self-update issues

Recently, I have found the Glyph self-update mechanism to be terribly buggy.. Here is what eventually worked for me on Arch Linux.

First, if you are using a VPN, disable it. For me, I just "sudo killall openvpn". Most distros probably have it set up for you so that you can control this via Network Manager. For help on turning off your VPN, please consult your distro's help.

Second, I could not install it into anything other than a new bottle. Uninstalling and deleting the usual files and directories does not work. I'm not sure what Glyph is leaving behind, but I do know this works. Once you have installed Glyph into a new bottle and updated it so that it is current. Then install the Glyph client into the existing bottle. It will fail to update, and therefore is unusable, but it places all the odd bits where they need to be. Now delete the Glyph directory in C:/Program Files, then copy over working directory from the new bottle.

You can now start Glyph as you normally would.
