Homeworld Tips

Play in widescreen resolutions/resolutions above 640 x 480

Tested under OS X 10.10.1 on a 2010 11.6" MacBook Air.

By default, the game starts up using software rendering, at 16-bit 640 x 480 resolution. Changing the game's settings in-game crashes the game. To get around this, run regedit to get to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sierra On-Line\Homeworld in the registry. There, you can edit the screenHeight and screenWidth values to match your chosen resolution. (Make sure that you have "Base" set to Decimal when editing). Under screenDepth, change the value to 32 to make the game run under 32-bit mode.

Make sure you also change deviceToSelect to d3d as well. In my experience, setting it to ogl crashes the game.

This way, the game runs perfectly under 32-bit graphics in full widescreen. All credit goes to pcgamingwiki.com (http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Homeworld) for the information.
