Lord of the Rings Online Tips

Installing LOTRO from the Crosstie file on Mac

To install LOTRO in Crossover games, click on the green "Install Lord of the Rings via Crosstie" on the main "Overview" page in this entry, or just click here.

Open the file, which will automatically open Crossover Games, and click "install" to proceed.

After creating the bottle and installing all of the necessary dependencies, the installation of LOTRO will begin. This will take a long time if this is your first install, because the game client is enormous.

Note that the Pando Media client, which downloads the installer files, is very prone to freezing if there are any network interruptions (even small interruptions that don't affect other net-connected apps). If the Pando Media client freezes while downloading LOTRO, cancel the installation, and then re-start the installation *in the same bottle*, rather than allowing Crossover to create a new bottle. By resuming the install in the same bottle, the installation will pick up where it left off.

At the end of the install, you'll see this screen:

UNCHECK the "view README" and "Launch the Lord of the Rings Online" boxes, and then click "Finish".

Now, you'll notice that the Crossover Software installer is still running. Here, you'll need to cancel the "Installing the Lord of the Rings Online" process, itself. The button to press is highlighted, below:

Crossover's Install Software tool will complete, and you'll then find a "PYLOTRO" launcher in Crossover's Programs menu.

When you first launch PYLTRO, you may see the following error:

If so, go toTools>Options. Click on the "..." next to "game directory", and browse into the "Lord of the Rings Online" bottle, to

drive_c/Program Files/Turbine/Lord of the Rings Online

Highlight this folder, and then click "ok" and then "save". Pylotro should now detect your game files.

Lastly, before logging in to play, you'll want to go to Tools>Patch, as well, to make sure the client is up-to-date.
