Microsoft Outlook 2007 Tips

Can't login to Exchange Account on Linux

Symptom: When accessing an exchange account, either via LAN or remotely (RPC over HTTP), Outlook never accepts your password. Attempts to login just refresh the login dialog, no attempt to connect is made. (Linux only)

Cause: Newer versions of the ntlm_ath library (3.6.1+) changes the default authentication from NTLM to NTLMv2. You can check your version of ntlm to see if it's 3.6.1 or newer with

$ ntlm_auth -V

Solution: Add the following line your "smb.conf" file (which is usually in /etc/samba/smb.conf  ) in the [global] section

client ntlmv2 auth = no

and then re-start winbind

$ sudo service winbind restart

You should only have to do this once.
