System Shock 2 Tips

Installation on Ubuntu 11.10 64bit

I was able to get the game running using Crossover Linux 11.0.0 using only a few minor tweaks. I have played through the first training sessions and everything seems to work so far.

Install Instructions (this is what worked for me)
1. Create a windows 98 bottle.
2. Install via setup.exe and choose full install. Also install the Intel codec. Do not install direct X.
3. Install SS2 Tool http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=392.0

After this step the game would start without issue. However, after the initial video sequence I encountered a white screen. To remove this screen I added the line "UseSysMemOverlay=2" (without quotes) to [Main] section of ddfix.ini file. This file is located in ~/.cxoffice/SystemShock/drive_c/Sshock2
