Team Fortress 2 Tips

Multiple monitors causes display/mouse issues

Running this game on a Mac with more than one display installed may cause issues. Most of the screen may turn white, or the mouse cursor does not seem to be able to activate any buttons. There are two workarounds:

  • Run the game in Windowed mode.
  • Specify a virtual desktop size:
    1. In CrossOver's menu go to Configure>Manage Bottles
    2. Click the Control Panel tab
    3. Launch winecfg
    4. In Wine Configuration, choose the Graphics tab
    5. Check the box next to "Emulate a virtual desktop"
    6. Specify a standard monitor size that is smaller than your screen's actual resolution
This will effectively run the game in a window, but the game will actually be full-screen inside the virtual desktop.
  • Completely disconnect all monitors but the main display from the computer. This may also prevent other issues related to CrossOver's ability to cope with multiple displays.
  • A few people in the forums are reporting issues with running the game in windowed mode. If you experience this, one of the other two options may still work.
