New MWO Portal not loading? Try installing from Steam

Later in Feb 2018 the old launcher will be retired. The new MWO Portal hasn't worked for me in CrossOver. Instead I recommend you install Steam into a Windows 7 bottle (it's a supported config). From there login to Steam and you can install Mechwarrior Online.

But when you hit play it doesn't work as it runs the 64bit version. Instead search for the 32bit version and run that.

You usually find it in

~//Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/<bottle name>/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/MechWarrior Online/Bin32/MWOClient.exe

You can just double click that and CrossOver will start MWO.

In the game I've found you have to keep the video settings at the lowest for it to run with enough FPS and no crashes.

When a patch comes out you should be able to update it through Steam.

Also make sure you disable "Performance Enhanced Graphics" in your bottle. It seems to stop the crashing I was getting.

Right click bottle. Select "Settings" and then deselect "Performance Enhanced Graphics" from the menu.

Thanks you, that worked from me on a semi-fresh installation:

Mac OSX 10.13.3

Crossover 17 with performance deselected

Used crosstie to install "mech warrior", this installed Steam and then let me continue on Steam to install MWO. Since I didn't want to re-download the whole game I copied the mech warrior folder from my old bottle and pasted it into the Steam common folder. Then at this point I opened Steam and asked to install MWO. Steam scanned the folders to see if the game was already installed and found the folder, it downloaded the latest updated, < 100MB and then the game was fully updated. Before closing Steam I lunched the game from within Steam because it needs to install few small application that evidently I was missing, then I closed Steam and ForceQuit MWO cause it doesnt lunch properly from Steam, and opened MWO client 32 bit as you described.

Thanks for the good advice Brian. I had been running it under Steam in Crossover until a year ago when I ran into problems.

I will try it again and report back.
