help wanted

with .Net installed i get the launcher to run and it thinks its installing the game but it doesn't ( not sure how to fix this yet.......... )

next I did a copy and pasty of game files form a working copy from a windows install ( still looks like it can't connect to the network or verify game files )

any thoughts of what to try next is welcome

I'm sure we will need directx 11 too but I know that is being worked on so soon we should have that

ok with some digging I found out you need

64 bit
.Net 3.5 and . Net 4.5.2
Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2017

I cant seem to get .Net 3.5 to install into a 64 bit bottle ( will try with out it )

Ok so we need

64 bit and win 7 bottle seems to work fine
.Net 3.5 and .Net 4.5.2
Vulkan and DXVK or directX 11 (how ever you want to look at it)
Core font

And now just need an install made up

Good to hear David. I will help test this out once CrossOver Mac gets support for DXVK and D3D11 as well. Hopefully this happens soon! Good luck.

Sadly what every was working now isn't and looks like we need to start all over

I saw another user posting on the Star Citizen reddit that they had it running under Lutris with Wine. I will try checking with them and see what dependencies they used, and post back if I find out anything.

Sorry to respond so late. Looks like others have got it to work this way:

Requirements:
Windows 10 64bit Bottle

.NET 4.7.2 (Click me!) -- Doesn't appear to have a CrossTie yet, maybe you can advocate this (looks like it has one other and is rated as 4 stars)? I will try on macOS...

Windows 10 Core Fonts (Has a CrossTie, search 'Core Fonts')

Procedure:

  • Now install Star Citizen launcher to the bottle, simulate reboot after launcher is installed.
  • Now install DXVK (Click me!) to the bottle and enable it.
  • Run SC Launcher and install game files.
  • Play and test. I forget which version of Wine crossover 18.5 has but you may notice performance issues if it is <=4.0.

Please post your results here! :)

WOW and thank you. I haven't had a lot of free time to play with this but I know others have this working else where so I have been hanging back and letting them do all the hard work .................
I will try this and try updating the crosstie

I checked and noticed Crossover is running Wine 4.9 so it should work. I did notice there were some people talking about possible performance issues with it, and that they had created a patch for that. If you run into any performance issues I can look and see if I find that patch somewhere.

Just as an aside; I tried running this using Unofficial Wineskin with MoltenVK and .NET was not necessary (of course DXVK and Corefonts is), however the installer tries to silently install DirectX and ClientIdentity_QueryMultipleInterfaces IRemUnknown_RemQueryInterface failed with error occurs. I tried this with Wine 4.5, 4.6, 4.9, and 4.12.1 with the same luck, however, if you check your drive_C --> Program Files everything needed will have installed. You can run the launcher at this point and although it seems to work flawlessly for the first couple minutes it ultimately causes Wine to crash with an Unhandled exception: page fault on read access error. I haven't gotten past this point yet...

Yeah not sure how to get around the DirectX install yet but I did start working on a test crosstie and trying now.

edit ..... ok tested and still getting some poor FPS

It works though? I read something that you need to set this value for Star Citizen here (Maybe it will help performance?):

sudo sysctl -w vm.max_map_count=655300

I also found this here, but I am not sure where to set these settings as I am not very familiar with Linux, could you maybe tell me where to set them if you figure it out?

Recommended Settings -

nvapi & nvapi64 = disabled
DXVK_HUD = 1
__GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE = true *
__GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_PATH = /path/to/shader/location **
__GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP = true
* Building shaders for the first time will induce a lot of stuttering as they are compiled by the GPU, Its best to generally do everything and go everywhere to build as many shaders. Once they are built the stuttering will subside.

** Recommend setting a path to your home location for permissions and keep
it in a separate directory to other shaders as they will be overridden

Other Notes -

Playing in windowed mode or with multiple monitors active can reduce frames and causes movement stuttering (Recommend playing in windowed mode in case of GPU stall)
Ubuntu distro has an issue with the CIG launcher and will crash frequently when starting up. Keep retying until it launches
Other 3D accelerated programs like Firefox many reduce fps when playing an active video.
For Nvidia users it recommended to install driver 418 or above.

Finally (just to be absolutely certain) you're hardware is up to spec to play the game correct?

My notes from reading those comments is that if it's the first time you're running it, it will stutter and be laggy building the shaders (see the note under recommended settings above) so maybe if it was your first time running it in that bottle that's what it was doing?

It installs and will run but I had some bugs that would change screen resolution

Hmmm might need to look into that too ...... maybe under wine settings

As for my system it should be ok to run it

Ryzen 7 2700x
RTX 2080
32 gb of ram
Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB

Since those are environment variables they may be hard coded in Crossover... I'm not entirely sure. I'm curious... about what frame-rate are you getting and where (in the PU at Port Olisar / Landing Zones, flying around)?

Would you be able to try running it in a bottle without .NET included? I'm no longer sure if this is necessary.

As a side-question, does the launcher install and run okay for you? I was having trouble with this in the unofficial wineskin as it crashes frequently after opening. It seems to work for a few minutes and then silently crashes.

I haven't had time to really play around with this ..... life got in the way for now and I'm kind of waiting for the next cross over update which I think might help
