Problem with Greek symbols

I've got a problem that I think popped up about Crossover 16.2 or so.

Following the installation prescription leads to general substitution of an Arial-type font. Times New Roman appears sans-serif. Further (and more critically), my Symbol font fails to provide Greek letters.
I have found the origin of the problem: if I do the install in a clean bottle (Win7, Win8, Win10, all 32-bit) but omit the Redistributable GDI+ package, fonts are fine--I get the same appearance and behavior as in Libreoffice. However, this leads to a crash if I open Document Settings; the backtrace flags gdi32.dll.

A workaround I'd be happy with would be to enter unicode characters for the Greek letters, but none of the Windows or Linux strategies for doing so seem to work. That way I can install GDI+ and avoid the crashes and not have to worry about a Symbol font.

Any hints as to what to try next would be appreciated.
