OneNote 2016 won't run due to "Desktop Experience" not being installed

Hi,

I have successfully installed Microsoft Office 2016 from Crossover 17.5(which is pretty great btw!!!). First off, thanks for the great work. So far, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access seem to basicly work... Activation was easy with default install...

Anyways, when I am trying to start OneNote 2016, I get a message about needing "Desktop Experience" installed... I haven't tried messing around with the suggested options of going to control panel... (not sure if I even can)... see the attached screenshot. Let me know what I can do about this. I think OneNote is a GREAT application (should be one of the "big" apps for office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote)

same issue, OneNote 2016 is necessary for me ☹️

This is the same bug that hampers OneNote 2013. If you want to have a "working" OneNote you have to go back all the way to OneNote 2010. However, in wine's OneNote 2010 you do not have synchronization with SharePoint or OneDrive, you can only use local notebooks.

The current OneNote experience with wine/codeweavers is not a happy story.

Is there some kind of update for this?

as of 1-29-19. OneNote 2016 update. To the codeweavers team- Keep up the good work. It is hard to bridge the gap caused by Microsoft, but the changes are afoot and hopefully soon you can resolve the following issue.

Just thought I would note that as of the date noted the issue of OneNote 2016 not running because it requires the install of the Desktop Experience remains unchanged.

I hope the team will be able to address this issue. While the online version is quite capable there are still some features that are unique to the desktop version.

I haven't tried installing Office 2016 in a while. But, I decided to give it another go with CrossOver 18.5.0. To my delight, it installed fine (modulo some failure dialogs towards the end of the installation). OneNote 2016 launches fine. I didn't see anything about a Desktop Experience requirement. The only issue is it can't synchronize notebooks with OneDrive. If that restriction is okay with you, I recommend giving it another try.

Thank you for the update, Kevin!

CrossOver 18.5 resolves the Desktop Experience error and offers preliminary support for OneNote 2016 on Linux. OneDrive integration is still unsupported, but a feature we hope to explore next.

If you'd like to give OneNote a try on CrossOver 18.5, you can download our two-week free trial here: https://www.codeweavers.com/products/crossover-linux/download

When I can use onenote on Linux I can to migrate totally in linux world.
Unfortunately for me it's very important this sw, like many others.

I installed 18.50 on Kubuntu 18.10. I just tried to install OneNote 2016 into a fresh WIn-7 bottle. It failed with "Something went wrong" message. Are there any pre-reqs that need to be installed first?

Hello Paul,

Yes, OneNote 2016 requires several dependencies. You can use either the Office 365 or Office 2016 crossties.

If I may, OneDrive is showing error: "OneDrive can't be run using full administrative right" any thoughts here?

Looks like OneNote can't connect to cloud without OneDrive. But I get an error "OneDrive can't be run using full administrative right." Is there a way to run OneDrive?

Just want to add support for OneDrive synchronization! I use OneNote primarily for planning my schedule and I need it to work between my work and home machines.

A +1 from me as well, I'd really love to have OneNote syncing with OneDrive in 2020. 😊

Also running into the OneDrive administrator error. I also can't access my onenote notebooks stored on the cloud. Fix this and I'll happily buy the full version of crossover.
