Star Trek Online now works with 18.0

So just wanted to let everyone know that Star Trek Online now works with 18.o in a new 64 bit Steam Bottle (CrossTie Has been updated).

On Mac there are some sound issues, but the graphics do work. Linux support should be better since there is DXVK support (not in crosstie, but should try installing).

  • Installed Crossover 18
  • Installed Steam with crossover tie
  • Installed STO via STEAM
  • After all the downloads, at login screen, hit "ENGAGE"... it locks up

Log file shows the following
181016 18:30:59 994 [1]: ERROR: Failed to detect DirectX Feature Level

Anyone else see this? Suggestions?

Do not use the Steam Cross-Tie. Use the Cross-Tie for the Star Trek Online.
Steam is currently a Windows 7 - 32 bit CrossTie.

For Star Trek Online you need a Windows 7 or 10 - 64 Bit CrossTie. It does not work in the 32 bit Cross Tie.

Make sure to update the Cross Ties as the Star Trek Online Tie has only been released today @ 2018-10-12 19:09

Thank you. Where can we find the updated cross tie? It seems the one on the compatibility page is the old one.

It should of updated for you automatically..... but just in case here is how you would build it.

  1. Select Steam from the install
  2. Before clicking Next go to Bottle, and change it to Windows 7 - 64 bit or Windows 10 - 64 Bit (I made changes in Steam a week ago or so to allow that).
  3. Install Star Trek Online from within Steam.

All the needed components are included in the Steam Bottle, just need to make sure it is 64 bit.

Please note Sound is not working, I am trying to work on it but will need some help from CodeWeavers, but graphics are mostly OK on an Old MacBook Pro (Intel Graphics), and on a New MacBookPro (AMD / Intel) Graphics.

Really appreciate the help. Unfortunately, even after installing Steam in the Windows 7 64bit bottle, I still can't launch STO. This is under Fedora Linux, still seeing the following error.

cat ERRORS_2018-10-16_22-00-00.log

181016 23:35:22 1046 [1]: ERROR: Failed to detect DirectX Feature Level

If I install DXVK, get some additional diagnostic info.

cat Star\ Trek\ Online_dxgi.log

info: Game: Star Trek Online.exe
info: DXVK: v0.81
warn: OpenVR: Failed to locate module
info: Enabled instance extensions:
info: VK_KHR_get_physical_device_properties2
info: VK_KHR_surface
info: VK_KHR_win32_surface
err: DxvkInstance::createInstance: Failed to create Vulkan instance

I don't know about the earlier error, but the last one is pretty clearly a blocker if you're trying with dxvk.

Are your drivers sufficiently up-to-date for dxvk? This is a possible issue. You might look here for solutions:

https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk

As a warning, though, updating your drivers may be destabalizing: it's not something you necessarily want to embark on unless you are pretty confident you can recover if there is a problem.

Sorry ... the tests were under Mac with standard install, and nothing else extra. So I am not sure about the Linux components. I have not tested under Linux only Mac, but since is direct install without anything extra it should work under Linux directly (not an expert on CrossOver), but using my knowledge of Wine and Linux.

I am on a Mac and I keep getting "content servers unreachable" when I attempt to install Star Trek Online from Steam using the Crosstie listed on on the STO CrossOver page. Is there a way to check that I have the latest CrossTie?

Note: It installs Internet Explorer 7 and Steam tells me Windows XP support is ending despite no[t being an XP bottle.

It sounds like you are running into a Steam bug that we fixed and haven't been able to figure out why some users are still seeing it. The fix for that bug is given in comment #4 on this winehq bug.

Find and edit the configuration file located in your Steam bottle. It should be located in /Users/{your user}/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/{your Star Trek Online bottle name}/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/config/config.vdf

Look for the following structure, and then add the configuration line:

> "InstallConfigStore"
> {
> "Software"
>   {
> "Valve"
>     {
> "Steam"
>        {

add the following entry (for me it's directy under "cip" and "CM"):

> "CS" "valve511.steamcontent.com;valve501.steamcontent.com;valve517.steamcontent.com;valve557.steamcontent.com;valve513.steamcontent.com;valve535.steamcontent.com;valve546.steamcontent.com;valve538.steamcontent.com;valve536.steamcontent.com;valve530.steamcontent.com;valve559.steamcontent.com;valve545.steamcontent.com;valve518.steamcontent.com;valve548.steamcontent.com;valve555.steamcontent.com;valve556.steamcontent.com;valve506.steamcontent.com;valve544.steamcontent.com;valve525.steamcontent.com;valve567.steamcontent.com;valve521.steamcontent.com;valve510.steamcontent.com;valve542.steamcontent.com;valve519.steamcontent.com;valve526.steamcontent.com;valve504.steamcontent.com;valve500.steamcontent.com;valve554.steamcontent.com;valve562.steamcontent.com;valve524.steamcontent.com;valve502.steamcontent.com;valve505.steamcontent.com;valve547.steamcontent.com;valve560.steamcontent.com;valve503.steamcontent.com;valve507.steamcontent.com;valve553.steamcontent.com;valve520.steamcontent.com;valve550.steamcontent.com;valve531.steamcontent.com;valve558.steamcontent.com;valve552.steamcontent.com;valve563.steamcontent.com;valve540.steamcontent.com;valve541.steamcontent.com;valve537.steamcontent.com;valve528.steamcontent.com;valve523.steamcontent.com;valve512.steamcontent.com;valve532.steamcontent.com;valve561.steamcontent.com;valve549.steamcontent.com;valve522.steamcontent.com;valve514.steamcontent.com;valve551.steamcontent.com;valve564.steamcontent.com;valve543.steamcontent.com;valve565.steamcontent.com;valve529.steamcontent.com;valve539.steamcontent.com;valve566.steamcontent.com;valve165.steamcontent.com;valve959.steamcontent.com;valve164.steamcontent.com;valve1611.steamcontent.com;valve1601.steamcontent.com;valve1617.steamcontent.com;valve1603.steamcontent.com;valve1602.steamcontent.com;valve1610.steamcontent.com;valve1615.steamcontent.com;valve909.steamcontent.com;valve900.steamcontent.com;valve905.steamcontent.com;valve954.steamcontent.com;valve955.steamcontent.com;valve1612.steamcontent.com;valve1607.steamcontent.com;valve1608.steamcontent.com;valve1618.steamcontent.com;valve1619.steamcontent.com;valve1606.steamcontent.com;valve1605.steamcontent.com;valve1609.steamcontent.com;valve907.steamcontent.com;valve901.steamcontent.com;valve902.steamcontent.com;valve1604.steamcontent.com;valve908.steamcontent.com;valve950.steamcontent.com;valve957.steamcontent.com;valve903.steamcontent.com;valve1614.steamcontent.com;valve904.steamcontent.com;valve952.steamcontent.com;valve1616.steamcontent.com;valve1613.steamcontent.com;valve958.steamcontent.com;valve956.steamcontent.com;valve906.steamcontent.com"

If this works, please let me know so that we can get some log files. We are still struggling to replicate this bug in-house, so any info could be useful for making the fix more robust.

Thanks,
Anna

Anna I encountered that bug a while ago, under a 32 bit bottle, when switching to 64 bit bottle it looked like it worked. Now it could be something that was isolated, but I had to rebuild the bottle for it to work correctly.

What bottle was build with the StarTrek Online ? What was installed inside the bottle? (the info button).

So if it is installing Internet Exploder 7 then it is the wrong cross Tie.

It must be under Cross Over 18 only, it does not work with any other version of cross over and the only thing that it should install is "Core Fonts" and "Microsoft XML Parser".

you were correct, it was the wrong crosstie. Using the proper crosstie I am able to download the launcher using Steam.

However, once the launcher finishes patching, it just sits there after trying to start the game. Attempting to manually start GameClient.exe resutls in "Unable to find required game data files."

For what it's worth, after launching the game, I had to let it sit a good few minutes (maybe even 5) before it opened. I thought that it had failed to launch, so I went to do something else and when I came back it was running.

Yes I have no idea what it is doing during that time, but it has taken up to 15 minutes for it to do something the FIRST time. Then it launches pretty quickly for the rest of the time using the bottle.

any idea why I am unable to launch the game?

In case it helps anyone else. I was finally able to get STO to work.

My computer is running Fedora 28 and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 card. The default "nouveau" video driver worked for other games, but not STO. For whatever reason, I saw the error shown below.

After disabling the nouveau driver, and manually installing the driver from NVIDIA's website, I can now launch an play STO!

John,
Please provide more information. Give us version numbers if you can (MacOSX), CrossOver. Also please post what is happening exactly.

Thank you for posting, I will modify the tips and tricks to give that tip with Linux versions.

Timothy can you run a test?

can you install DXVK in to the bottle, and see if you have better performance? I do not have a linux system with an appropriate graphics card that is able to test this.

Hello,

Installing DXVK definitely improves performance. Thanks!!

EDIT: Just realized you are using Linux and I am on Mac so this is a wash but I am having the same issue

Mac OS X 10.14
CrossOver 18.0.0.31656

What is happened is exactly as Timothy described, the patcher does not get past ENGAGE after clicked and my log file states:
1 [1]: ERROR: Failed to detect DirectX Feature Level

Anything?

OK so I have it running on 2 Mac Book's pro (2016 and 2018) so with and without discrete graphics.

Can you Verify the following:

  1. You are using Steam in a Windows 7 64 bit bottle
  2. You have "Performance Enhanced Graphics" enabled.
  3. You have Core Fonts and Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Installed

After that, if you verify that you have all of this. I would recommend opening a ticket with support.

Hi all...I just tried to run STO through the CrossTie and also by just loading steam in a separate bottle. Got the same result: "Unable to start game client: Environment variable not found". Has anyone seen this error before? Thanks.

With 18.5 my STO client now functions again in CrossOver.
