Hi, I've a Microsoft 365 subscription. It possible to activate the subscription doing this:

First, download the latest OfficeSetup x86
Make a clean install
Try one or two times to login from Word or another app.
Close the app.
Quit bottle
Start Office app again

You can check in your Microsoft's account, under installations, that your brand new install is signed in. It's not a solution to the issue, but is a workaround to keep you working.
Best regards.

Has anyone found a fix for this yet. I'm having the same issue. Cheers

Same problem here with an install that's been working for a year and now asks to re-activate. Tried a fresh install in a new bottle... same thing. It keeps on asking to install Edge.

As of now, Office pretty useless to me in Crossover.

I'm having the same issue on Pop_OS! 20.10. Very disappointing. This issue has been unresolved for quite a while now.

Just tried installing Office 365 via Crossover on Fedora 34. There seem two serious issues:

  1. THIS issue. Office 365 installs okay. But the activation demands Microsoft Edge. So I tried installing a 32-bit version of Edge for Windows 7 via Crossover, using the Office_365 bottle. The application claims Edge installed okay, but it is not listed in the bottle (even after quitting the bottle and simulating a reboot multiple times). I also installed Edge for Linux (from the Edge preview for Insiders site) and still not working.

As I'm posting this on May 15, 2021, on a thread started in early April, I assume this is one severe issue.

  1. Wayland. Anyone else noticing significant issues with the responsiveness of Windows applications running under Crossover? Office 365 seems especially bad, but I've noticed other applications like Office 2007 seem to run much smoother when installed via "vanilla" Wine or PlayOnLinux.

I just installed MS 365, and encountered the browser issue. After I tried a couple of times to activate and failed, I closed everything up, quit the bottle, and restarted Word. Word then started without the yellow warning ribbon about unlicensed use, and to all appearances is activated.

Host is openSuSE Leap 15.2. Having the same issue. Office installs fine but activation wants me to use Microsoft Edge. Edge appears to install but is not in the application list.

Thanks Meredith. How will we be notified when this solution is ready?

I will be purchasing a license as soon as this is done.

Hi there,

This is fixed in CrossOver 21, released last week. Users who had open tickets about this issue were notified, and we also mentioned this issue in the release announcement: both of those venues are how we typically announce bug fixes in new releases.

This is not resolved even in newest version 21. Install works fine, first start works fine, even first login works fine - no more Edge browser issue.
On any more starts - Office requests activation again and will not activate - it repatedly asks for login but will not activate.

I am dissapointed, paying every year and its still not fixed. Please, make this a priority.

Thank you

System: Linuxmint 20.02, Crossover 21

Hi Peter,

Does your Office account use multifactor authentication? That's the only thing I can think of that's still an outstanding problem.

Best,
Meredith

I just wanted to chime in. Activation now works fine for me with version 21.
Even on multiple startups and reboots, it stays activated. My office account uses MFA with the MS Authenticator app too.
I only had on problem trying to activate. I eventually closed out the window, went back and it was activated.
