Real Flight Manufacturer and Install Issues

Hi,

The Real Flight Gn product is manufactured by KnifeEdge Software (http://www.knifeedge.com) and they have just released Real Flight G3.5 Jan 19, 2007. I have RF G2 and have been unable to initiate and complete the final install using CrossOver-Linux or Wine. The preliminary install from the CD works fine but when one attempts to open the application or the real flight control panel to complete the install, an error occurs that appears be a path back to the CD related issue. Has that been your experience with G3 as well?

Roger

I have successfully installed the latest version of Real Flight G3.5. The software has even gone to the point of downloading the latest version successfully on a MacBook Pro. The stumbling block encountered now is the Interlink Controller. The software does not recognize the controller plugged into a USB port. My research has shown that the controller has to be set up through the Device Manager. At this point, I have not been able to work with Crossover to identify the controller. I cannot confirm that the software works properly because I can't get past this point.

I will continue to try as I have time . . .

Hi Patrick,

Using the latest versions of Crossover-Linux and Wine, I have also been able to achieve a full install as well, finally! 😊

I am using the latest versions of Red Hat and Fedora on my PC's and have encountered the same usb I-Controller issue as yourself with my G2 software. Linux recognizes the IC as /dev/js0 on my system but so far I have been unable to provide a functional link in the "dosdevices" folder that the RF software will recognize as a legitimate connection to the Linux device.

Check the RealFlight Control Panel, Tech Support then Joystick buttons and see if any controller inputs change any of the values. They do work on my setup implying that RF does actually "see" the controller but won't start until it sees something that Windows or Mac provides to the app to show a legitimate connection. In the Windows Device Manager, the IC controller shows up as a HID game controller and references that to a HID usb port but a specific port is not specified. So what that port is, I have no idea as of yet but that is probably what the RF sim app needs to see. I have tried comX, usbX and even lptX but so far no go. 😥
